Hey there Friend!
So last week I shared the beginning of my respiratory health journey after moving to Italy. Did any of it resonate with you or sound familiar? I know for some people I’ve worked with, it is a similar tale.
Today the story continues.
After seeing all those doctors and FINALLY finding one who not only listened but also supported me properly, I was on my way to feeling better. I also moved away from the city, Rome’s center, to the countryside. This supported some because I was not being exposed to as much pollution and especially cigarette smoke. I still worked in Rome, so I was there four to six days a week; however, I was able to come home each day to clean air.
Once COVID hit and movement was limited to essential personnel only, I no longer had to go into the city. My respiratory health continued to improve. During this time, is when I found my true calling being a functional nutritionist and decided to focus on respiratory health. I hosted a summit called Breathe Easy, Breathe Well to speak to experts all over the world on how they supported their patients with respiratory issues. I was fascinated at all the things I learned that supported not only me, but also the listeners and my patients.
As mentioned, about three weeks ago though, I came across some new triggers from me - one being the amount of humidity where I am. I haven’t figured out yet if the humidity only correlates with colder temperatures…my thought would be yes because I’ve never experienced this reaction before during the warmer months, and yet it’s the first time I’ve experienced it in the winter. Just when I think I’ve got it all figured out, I am thrown another curveball.
I believe that this is for me to learn; to learn patience, to learn how I can continue to better support others, to learn “what else” could be causing respiratory health issues or exacerbating them and above all, to have faith that I will find the root cause of these respiratory illnesses not only for me but also my patients.
I know how scary it can be when you feel like you can't breathe. I know how it feels to look at my pulse ox and see it in the 70s or 80s. I know how it feels to go to the emergency room and my arterial blood gas is at 60% and to be in respiratory alkalosis…I say all that to say, I can fully empathise with you and because I’ve been through it, and sometimes, like now, still going through it, I can support you. I will listen. I will support you in getting to the root cause…and if I can’t, I will humbly refer you to someone who can.
Next week, I will share how when you are in tune with your body you may be able to differentiate between a regular respiratory attack versus one that “feels different.” This is what happened to me recently and it is why it is so important that we tune in to our bodies and are able to communicate effectively with our physicians when an emergency room visit pops up.
If any of this resonated with you, I would love to hear from you…what is YOUR story? Have you been like me, on a similar journey to self healing and didn’t find the support you needed? Please email me or feel free to post your journey in the Breathe Easy, Breathe Well community. If you’d like to share your story in an interview, I would LOVE to discuss it with you. And if you are still looking for the practitioner to support you, I always offer a free strategy session to determine if I can support you as well as I have a great four month, one to one program that may interest you.
