HIII Friend!
Last week I shared several ways to support healthy digestion during the holidays and today is a continuation of that. As mentioned before, maintaining healthy digestion during the holidays can be a challenge as we typically get off our daily routines and indulge in some foods we wouldn't usually eat. You can incorporate any of last week's or today's recommendations to support better digestive health at this time.
1. Incorporate Herbal Teas: Ginger, peppermint, and chamomile teas support digestion and can have soothing effects on the digestive system. Consider sipping on these after meals. Ginger tea is also a great anti-inflammatory, especially when made fresh! If you want the recipe, send me a message and I'll get it to you straight away!
2. Stay Active: Regular physical activity can aid in digestion. Take a short walk after meals to stimulate digestion.
3. Space Out Meals: Instead of having large, heavy meals, consider having smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. This can support to prevent overloading your digestive system all at once.
4. Limit Caffeine and Alcohol Intake: Both caffeine and alcohol can contribute to dehydration and may irritate the digestive tract. Consume them in moderation and balance with water intake.
5. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how your body responds to different foods. If you notice specific foods causing discomfort, consider moderating your intake.
6. Prioritize Eating Whole Foods: Choose whole, unprocessed foods over highly processed and refined options. Whole foods are often easier for the body to digest and provide essential nutrients.
7. Get Adequate Sleep: A good night's sleep is crucial for overall health, including digestion. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night and if you aren't getting that, set alarms or timers for when to wind down and get to bed. I personally have one set for 9:30PM that reminds me I have one hour to wind down before bed. My phone goes into "Do Not Disturb" mode then
As a reminder, everyone's digestive system is different and unique to them, so it's important to pay attention to your body's signals and make choices that support you.
