Hey there Friend!
With the holidays upon us, even for those who don't celebrate, this can be a very stressful time of year. At times we can become overwhelmed and frustrated and this leads to affecting our sanity as well as our relationship with others. So how can you stay sane, maintain wellness and a sense of calm? Read on to find out.
1. Deep Breathing Exercises: Practice deep breathing exercises to calm your nervous system. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a few seconds, and exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat several times.
2. Mindful Breathing: Be present in the moment by focusing on your breath. Pay attention to each inhale and exhale. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to your breath.
3. Nature Walks: Take a break and go for a walk in nature. Fresh air and the sights and sounds of the outdoors can have a calming effect.
4. Gratitude Practice: Reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Gratitude has been linked to increased feelings of happiness and well-being.
5. Digital Detox: Consider taking a break from electronic devices and social media. Disconnecting can reduce stress and allow you to be present with loved ones.
6. Yoga and Meditation: Engage in yoga or meditation to promote relaxation and mindfulness. These practices can help you connect with your breath and reduce stress.
7. Set Realistic Expectations: Manage your expectations for the holiday season. It's okay if everything doesn't go perfectly. Focus on the meaningful moments rather than striving for perfection.
8. Self-Care: Prioritize self-care activities that bring you joy and relaxation. This could include reading, taking a warm bath, listening to music, getting a massage, or anything else that helps you unwind.
9. Connect with Loved Ones: Spend quality time with friends and family. Social connections are important for emotional well-being.
10. Laugh: Laughter is a natural stress reliever. Watch a funny movie, attend a comedy show, or engage in activities that make you laugh.
11. Aromatherapy: Use calming scents like lavender or chamomile to create a relaxing environment. Essential oils can be helpful.
Remember, the holiday season can be busy, AND it's important to prioritize your well-being. Choose activities that bring you joy and make time for relaxation. It's okay to say no to commitments that may contribute to stress and prioritize activities that nourish your mind and body.
